ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM

SCORPIO and the ENVIRONMENT

WORDS INTO ACTION

Since 1/11/2010, we use only renewable electrical energy, such as hydro and wind power in all of our operations.

MATERIALS

The basic materials that we most commonly use are 100% polyester or 100% cotton, products of which can be disposed of by burning without the harmful emissions that come from the disposal of, for example, commonly used PVC products (e.g., vinyl). No PVC-based raw materials or their derivatives are used in our production. Our production is partly iÖKÖtex Standard 100 certified.

REUSE AND DISPOSAL

  • Instead of disposal, we recommend recycling
  • Small products such as bags, aprons, tablecloths, etc, can be manufactured from big products, such as flags.
  • Decommissioned fabrics can also be used for land and water building as protective facbrics.
  • Products that are used for a short period of time can be donated to schools and kindergartens as hobby materials
  • Discarded items can also be returned to us for recycling.

Small particles and impurities attached to products that have been outside for long term use often prevent  their meaningful and safe reuse.

At best, reusable and easily retained fabric material is ideally suited for annually recurring events such as campaigns and promotional material.

WASTE MANAGEMENT AND PRINTING DYES

We use water-based inks in our printing process. Printing dye is disposed of as finely as possible before washing screens and equipment, so that the load into the waste water is as low as possible. Our prosess water is cleaned in a private waste water treatment plant. The amount of process water is minimized by recycling the water already at various stages of production. Waste heat from the dye fixation process is recovered and used for heating water and real estate.

Waste dyes and chemicals are transported to the Riihimäki Ekokem waste treatment plant for disposal.

We use water based printing dyes as printing colors that are blow the limit levels below the limit values necessary under the EU legislation concerning print dyes that came into effect at the start of 2009. The legislation focuses in particular on phthalate (DEHP), banning its use and mandating its replacement in all textile products.
PVC products and, for example, Plastisol dyes that are commonly used in shirt printing plants contain banned substances. Our production does not use PVC or Plastisol dyes.

Solid waste is already sorted during production, so the actual percentage of landfill waste is minimized.

We strive in all our operations to comply with the following principle:

"We imagine fabrics - without leaving a trace”
